For more than 100 years, I&J has been a trusted name in seafood.
The company’s founders, George Irvin and Carl Johnson, pioneered the use of the trawl fishing method in the almost untouched waters off Cape Town in the early 20th Century, unknowingly laying the foundation for what was to become an iconic South African company.
Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to be an environmentally conscious consumer and enjoy a good seafood meal. Let I&J’s “Surfing Chef”, Philip Myburgh, teach you how. Philip is as passionate about the health of the world’s oceans as he is about good food. He is working with I&J to enhance the company’s range of products, demonstrate the ease and convenience with which they may be used and educate consumers about sustainable seafood.
As a leading South African fishing company, I&J is aware of the responsibility it has to harvest fish stocks with a long-term vision and commitment. That’s why in 2012, I&J signed a landmark Participation Agreement with the South African Sustainable Seafood Initiative, WWF-SASSI. All I&J products made from South African hake are certified by the Marine Stewardship Council, a guarantee that they originate from a sustainable and well-managed fishery.
