Homemade Fish Cakes

Makes 8 fish cakes


  • 3 I&J Deep Water Hake Prime Steaks
  • 2 I&J Haddock Prime Steaks
  • 10 ml chopped chives
  • 10 ml chopped fresh parsley
  • 2.5 ml grated lemon zest
  • 350 g potatoes, cooked and mashed
  • 1  ̶  2 large eggs, beaten
  • 125 ml breadcrumbs


  • Microwave the I&J Hake Prime Steaks and the I&J Haddock Prime Steaks until cooked.
  • Drain the excess liquid from the fish and lightly flake into chunks.
  • Mix the herbs and lemon zest with the potato mash and season. Gently mix in the chunks of fish.
  • Form 8 equal-sized cakes (palm-sized) from the fish mixture. Dip into the egg, followed by the breadcrumbs.
  • Refrigerate for 30 minutes before pan-frying in oil.

Serving suggestion
Serve with greens, fresh lime or lemon slices and mayonnaise.
